Soul Searching Girl Podcast

In 2012, I started my youtube channel to help women who are questioning the mormon church, not feel so alone in her questioning, so, I am going back to my beginning as it feels like the perfect fit. Soul Searching Girl isn’t about age, it is about spirit. It is the curious, questioning, playful part of you that is ready to find her truth.

This podcast is not all about leaving the mormon church, however, my Exmormonology episodes, specific to healing from religious trauma can be found in Episodes 1 through 114. You will also find a our Irreverent podcast episodes scattered in between the Exmormonology episodes, where James Rhodimer, my partner and I, well, get a bit irreverent about growing up in the LDS faith.

It was time for me to move on from Exmormon centric podcasts, so I am settling into my Soul Searching Girl Podcast, helping you healing from all the difficult parts of life.

Soul Searching Girl Coaching is a podcast about healing old wounds, building self trust and embracing who you are becoming. Together we explore what it means to step out of religious trauma, patriarchy and good girl conditioning and return to who you have always been, before the rules, before the silencing, before the doubt. This messy middle, the in between, where healing takes root, boundaries are built and self trust is grown. Here you will find the courage to come home to yourself.

If you have landed in the space of being able to see your trauma and how it has form you and affected your life, for maybe even decades? You have done therapy, coaching, healing of all kinds, you have made changes for the better, yet you still feel a bit stuck from it all…

Well, then, you are in the right place.

Soul Searching Girl Coaching is for those of us who are a “woman of a certain age” who are ready to really start living the live we have dreamed of but because of your trauma and how it has formed you, you feel scared.

However, you will be doing things differently now, because you are worthy of living a life that makes you silly from happiness. A life that fits you like a cozy sweater or the perfect pair of jeans.

Tune in to learn the skills to move on and forward. It is not too late, Wildflower.

The In Between, pt. 2

In this second part of The In Between, we go deeper into the space between where you have been and where you are going, the place that feels messy, uncertain and full of doubt. This is where decisions are made, boundaries are set and enforced and uncomfortable feelings rise up asking to be felt.

Some call it limbo, but I believe it is more than that, it is a fertile pause, the ground where healing takes root and trust begins to grow. In this episode, we will talk about how to sit with the muck, allow yourself to feel and still hold space for the life that is waiting for you on the other side.

If you are navigating your own In Between, this conversation will remind you that you are not stuck you are just in The In Between.

The In Between

I have been captivated by the concept of The In Between, that mysterious space between enduring your pain and trauma and fully moving forward. It is a place where it is easy to get stuck in familiar patterns of suffering, because they have become uncomfortably comfortable. Pain can feel like an old snugle blanket you have held onto for years and letting go feels strange, even a little like losing yourself.

But The In Between is also where transformation happens. It is where you begin to truly integrate all the tools you have learned along the way: setting boundaries, speaking up for yourself, saying no and meaning it, being gentle with yourself and leaning fully into your feelings.

It can feel scary to step into this space, but it is also so magical. It is here, in the tension between what was and what can be, that you learn to trust yourself and your healing.

A Meditation: The In Between

If you find yourself clinging to your pain, don't worry, it is actually a good sign if you can see that you do that.

As you reflect on your own journey, tune into this meditation and let your body relax and connect with your higher self. You have to slow down the noise of life to see if you are stuck in your old ways. They are familiar to you, so it makes sense that you cling. Even uncomfortable feels comfortable sometimes.

It can feel very scary to set down this piece of you, the old you, the one that was so in her pain that she could see no way out, to the you that can see a way out, but your identity and stories and way of being, keep you locked into the only way of being you know.

This in between is such a scary place to be. However, if you lean into trusting yourself, a whole new world will open up for you.

Self Confidence & The Model

I have been sitting with a lot of emotions, like many of you, I am sure. The state of the world right now is heavy, overwhelming and a bit surreal. Before we dive into today’s topic, I wanted to share some thoughts on that, because pretending everything is “normal” just doesn’t feel right.

Times are tough right now and this tells me that the work I do in the world is important. The work I do, the tools and my coaching, combine to help you not get pulled under by the weight of everything happening in the USA and the world right now.

Viktor Frankl was an Austrian neurologist, psychologist, philosopher and Holocaust survivor. I can't help but think of his words right now, as what we are experiencing feels similar. Viktor taught us that no one can take away the way we think and our attitude about our life. When I think of the unimaginable horror that he lived through, and millions of others, his words give me hope and a reminder to make sure we tend to your mind and heart.

And THIS is the reason I will continue doing my work, even though times feel very heavy.

And then, once we have grounded in that reality, I want to take us somewhere deeper, into the heart of self confidence. Not the kind that is all surface level pep talk, but the real kind. The kind that grows quietly from trusting yourself and having your own back, no matter what is happening outside of you.

I also want to introduce you to, or remind you, of one of my favorite coaching tools. I am going to walk you through my thought model, a tool to help you see how your thoughts create your life. I know it is much more complicated than that, but, let’s start there.

I can and will help you learn to manage your mind and heart, Wildflower. This is what I do. I would love to work with you and help you through these times.

Take a breath. Press play. Return to your own steady ground.

The Space In Between Self Doubt & Self Trust

The space between self doubt and self trust can be a very hard place to be.

In this final episode of this trusting yourself series, we are diving into the emotional habits that keep you stuck and how to step into the role of observer so you can change them.

Do you know how you habitually respond to stress? Trauma? Most of us don’t. And when we are unaware, we keep reacting the same way, over and over. This is the place of feeling stuck. It can be a difficult place to live. Limbo is never fun.

Today we talk about recognizing your default emotional responses, getting comfortable feeling hard emotions, without drowning in them, the difference between processing and indulging

And how to navigate the in between space, that tender place where you are not quite trusting yourself yet, but you are no longer ignoring your truth either.

This is about building emotional awareness so you can choose differently and trust yourself. More deeply, one moment at a time.

Feeling Your Emotions IN Your Body

So many of us struggle to truly listen to our bodies. Over time, we get busy, distracted and caught up in the demands of everyday life. We stop paying attention to the subtle cues our bodies send us and before we know it, we have built a habit of ignoring them. We often push through exhaustion, dismiss discomfort and silence our needs, believing that we do not have time or that we should just power through.

When we do this for long enough, we begin to lose the connection we actually crave with our body. We become disconnected from ourselves in ways that can be hard to notice until we really need our bodies. Then, it feels like we have forgotten how to communicate with our amazing bodies that carry us through life.

Reconnecting with your body requires more than just noticing aches and pains. It is about learning to tune in with compassion and curiosity, to honor what your body is telling you, so you can begin to respond with care, for your body. It is a process of unlearning the patterns of disconnection and relearning how to show up for yourself in ways that prioritize listening and tuning into what your body needs from you. Nurturing.

Small steps pave the way here. Let’s start with something very simple.

Soul Searching Girl Is Back

We are moving forward. Onward. Beyond what it means to leave high demand religion. There is so much more to life than what we’ve been taught or what we’ve experienced in the past. There are places to see, people to meet, and dreams to chase.

But here’s the thing: healing doesn’t have to be the end goal. It’s a part of the journey, yes, but living, truly living, is what comes next. You’ve done the hard work of healing, of processing and shedding the layers of who you were told to be. Now, it’s time to step into who you really are.

This space is all about showing up for your life, imperfect and free. It’s about embracing the mess, the beauty, and the excitement of becoming, while continuing to heal and grow. It’s about creating the life you’ve been dreaming of for decades, without waiting for some magical moment when everything is "fixed."

Because guess what? You’re already whole.

You don’t have to wait for permission anymore. You don’t have to wait for someone to tell you you’re enough, because you are enough, right now. This journey is about living boldly, creating with purpose, and trusting yourself every step of the way.

So, Wildflower, let’s stop waiting for the perfect time to start living and dive in, imperfect, messy, and full of potential. There’s a whole world out there, and it’s ready for you to show up, as you are, and begin living the life you’ve always deserved.

Is The Self Help Industry A Farce?

Have you spent years buying self help books, listening to podcasts, and trying to improve and heal yourself? Yeah, me too. This week I want to talk about how your desire to improve and heal your pains and trauma is so valid! No one ever taught us how to "figure it out."  If you are listening to this podcast, you are most likely along your own personal healing journey. I want you to look at your healing journey as a quest to find your personal healing recipe. You are looking for the equation that works for you. Your recipe is different from my recipe. Yet, when all the stars align for you, you will find it. Keep searching. Keep seeking to understand yourself. The self help industry has a lot to wade through, but keep trusting yourself to find what you are looking for. Trust this process you find yourself on.

Have you ever had a conversation with a stranger that ignited a sparked your brain? This happened this morning as Jim and I were having breakfast at a cafe in Provo Utah, we happened to have an amazing conversation with someone else who was doing what we were doing, eating. I invited James to join me today on the podcast because, well, he was there and we ended up having our own several hour conversation that was started by this happenstance meeting today with a stranger. Exmormonology Ep. 125 ~ Triggered Scrupulosity

Let's dive into religious scrupulosity and the Doug Fabrizio's Radio West Episode last week. Radio West is a Salt Lake City radio/podcast show. I was a bit triggered by a few things said by a guest on last weeks show and I want to talk about it, what it means and what it may mean to you. Working your way out of religious scrupulosity is possible. For many it stops the minute your religious beliefs dissipate, for others it may take years to unravel. Either way, I want to talk about what is happening for those of us who tend towards the scrupulous ways of religiously believing, even when we did not know it was a thing that was happening to and within us.

Exmormonology Ep. 124 ~ Affirmations are BS

Wildflower, you have life to live and a brain to guide you to whatever it is you desire. On The Unorthodox Woman Podcast, I show you how to do just that, be your own brain guide.

While I know that the title of this episdoe may sound like I want to take on the whole affirmation community (if that is a thing), that is not the case. I do believe there is a missing step in the process of how we have been taught to do affirmations.

So, this week, I want to teach you the missing piece and speed up the process of getting you to what you want to believe about yourself. This way you get to where you want to go with your life a whole lot quicker! If nothing else, you get to the beliefs you want to believe in a more holistic, moving way, sustainable way.

Exmormonology Ep. 123 ~

You may be developing an obsession, or at minimum a fascination, with things like televangelists or Shiny Happy People.

Me too!

This week I dive into why this happens, what is happening in your brain when you watch and how this is an important part of your healing.

I also address the "script" used by most of the religious people in your life when you share the news that you are leaving your religion. It is the script that show that the indoctrination is working.

Let's talk! I have so much to share with you this week.

Exmormonology Ep. 122 ~ Focus

It was the summer of 1990, shortly after I was married, when my husband and I embarked on a journey to Flaming Gorge Lodge (in Utah) where we would work for the summer saving for college tuition. I worked as a waitress at the diner. It was a magical, beautiful summer up top a glorious mountain.

In this week's episode of The Unorthodox Woman, I recount a remarkable encounter with a charming lady who happened to be working alongside me for a few weeks. While I can't recall her exact age or even remember her name, she appeared to be in her late 60s or maybe even 70s. (as a 20-year-old, she seemed "old" to me at the time.) Little did I know that she would impart a lesson that has stayed with me for over 30 years. It involves coffee, a beverage I was not allowed to drink as an active believing member of my church. I have a feeling this story will help you with whatever you are struggling with, as it has helped me with my own struggles throughout my life.

Yeah, me too. Yep, I see you! Hello, we have a lot in common. This question is rich for the corners of your conditioning to explore.

This week, let's dive into all things guilt and the psychology behind why it may be hard for you to make decisions. Your social, religious, spiritual and familial conditioning comes in hard and fast when the possibility of potential guilt or regret come into play.

I want to zoom out and get a big picture of what is going on in your brain when you ask a question like this. So, grab your earbuds and get your brain ready for some critical thinking!
